Actor Ian Veneracion recently voiced his displeasure over negative comments directed at his daughter, Deirdre, following her public admission of being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The backlash occurred after Deirdre was featured in the Pride Month edition of Preview magazine.
Veneracion emphasized the importance of respecting individuals for their personal qualities rather than their private choices.
“Seriously, let’s all just cut the bllsht. People should be honored and respected for their compassion, courage, and integrity—not for the choices they make in the privacy of their bedrooms,” he stated.
He expressed pride in his daughter, highlighting her embodiment of important values. “Proud of my daughter for embodying these values. Who she loves is her business,” Veneracion added.

Recalling the moment Deirdre came out to him at 16, Veneracion shared, “Sabi niya ‘Daddy, I have to tell you something.’ Sabi ko, ‘What? Sit down.’ Sabi niya, ‘I like girls.’ Tapos sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Me also I like girls.’ So parang nagtataka siya, sabi niya, ‘It’s okay?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yes. Just don’t be ever apologetic about it, not even to me.’ Sabi ko, ‘You can be whoever you want to be and I have full support’.”
Despite his supportive message, Veneracion’s post also received questions from netizens, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families in seeking acceptance and understanding.
