Darren Espanto has addressed and denied allegations that he is no longer welcome at the Legaspi household.
In a recent statement, the singer-actor firmly stated, “Walang katotohanan yung mga lumalabas na tsismis. We’re good. There’s no truth to that at all. Wala kaming problema ni Cassy or ni Mavy or sino man sa (Legaspi) family.”
Speculation about a falling out between Darren and the Legaspi family began in April, following his clarification that he and Cassy Legaspi are “best friends.” This statement led to fan speculation that Cassy was unhappy, especially after she posted lyrics from Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Perfect Crime’ on social media shortly thereafter.
Adding fuel to the fire, Cassy’s mother, Carmina, posted a quote card around the same time with the words, “Don’t expect the same in return.” These posts were interpreted by some fans as signs of a rift.
Cassy publicly addressed the rumors, explaining that her posts and those of her mother were not meant to insinuate anything. She mentioned that she enjoys sharing song lyrics based on her mood, while Carmina likes to post quotes and Bible verses.
Darren also appeared on television to clarify that there were no ill feelings between him and the Legaspi family. “She doesn’t have any ill feelings towards me — she and her family,” he asserted.
Despite these clarifications, rumors persisted. Cassy’s heartfelt birthday greeting to Darren in May did little to quell the speculation. She wrote, “Happy Happy Birthday DB!! ‘D Total Package.’ Stay kind & true to yourself always D (alam mo na yun….hehe) don’t forget to pace yourself and take care of yourself. You already know that I’m always here for you and I always have been.”
Fans were particularly disappointed when Cassy did not attend Darren’s recent concert celebrating his 10th year in showbiz, although many of his friends from the entertainment industry, including Alexa Ilacad, were present.
Darren explained Cassy’s absence, saying, “Hindi lang si Cass available. Pero the congratulated me na even before pa, Cassy and Mavy. Like even while we were preparing pa lang for the concert, like during rehearsals, both of them would always call or text para kamustahin ako and give me encouragement.”
Addressing why they haven’t been seen together as frequently, Darren noted, “Siguro kasi kami ni Cass we’re taking on different paths, career-wise,” Darren said. “And we’re busy doing our own thing, individually. But that doesn’t mean we’re not close anymore. We’re just busy with stuff.”
