Retired Marine Colonel Ariel Querubin, a decorated military hero, announced on May 17 his intention to run for senator in the upcoming election.
During a talk at the Manila Polo Club, Querubin revealed his willingness to re-enter the political arena. This revelation followed a conversation with Tawi-Tawi Governor Yshmael “Mang” I. Sali during the 52nd Activation Day Celebration of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-1.
The colonel recounted how Governor Sali questioned why he sat out previous elections, despite being a strong candidate.
To answer Gov. Sali’s question, Querubin explained that when he was freed in 2010, he focused on his seven children. Now that they are soon-to-be professionals, he is prepared to run for senator again.
Querubin, who ran for senator in 2010 as a Nacionalista Party (NP) member, stated, “This time. Sabi ko nga, kung pahihintulutan tayo, kung pagkakalooban tayo ng Panginoon, at susuportahan tayo ng taumbayan na manungkulan muli at manindigan, handa po tayo.”
According to the Comelec, October 1 to 8 is the period for filing candidacy for the 2025 senatorial elections. With four months left, the colonel said he is busy fulfilling his role as a peace advocate.
Being at the forefront of eradicating insurgents, Querubin received the Medal of Valor, the highest military award for courage. He was also distinguished for his nation-building efforts and was given an award by the Philippine Military Academy AAA Cavalier Award in the field of private enterprise.
