Anne Curtis is set to make her much-anticipated return to television as she stars in the Philippine adaptation of the acclaimed Korean drama ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.’
Curtis will portray Emilia ‘Mia’ Hernandez, the local version of Ko Moon-young, a role originally played by Seo Yea-ji.
Curtis will be joined by Joshua Garcia and Carlo Aquino, who will take on the roles analogous to Kim Soo-hyun and Oh Jung-se’s characters, respectively. Directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar, the adaptation will be set in Negros.
In a press conference, Curtis expressed her excitement about the project, revealing her instant connection with the series when she first watched it in 2021. “When they offered this to me, it was an instant yes because I love the original. I couldn’t let it pass,” she said. Curtis had even discussed her desire to participate in a similar series with her manager at Viva back in 2021.
Curtis emphasized the series’ insightful depiction of mental health as a significant factor in her decision to accept the role. “My character has an antisocial personality disorder and you will see me portraying her with utmost care. I hope this series will break the stigma and raise awareness,” she stated.
The actress shared how deeply she resonated with Moon-young’s character arc. “I love her journey of growth. You see it from the beginning of the episode until the end. You see how she dresses, how she changes her hair, how she speaks and controls her emotions, and how she goes through the process even her outbursts. I can see myself,” Curtis reflected.
Garcia and Aquino both expressed their excitement and honor to work with Curtis. Aquino, recalling their previous collaboration in the 2008 film ‘Baler,’ said he was thrilled to team up with her again.
The series will also highlight the work of Filipino illustrators to recreate the iconic illustrations that played a crucial role in the original series. More details about the show are yet to be announced, but the adaptation promises to deliver a fresh and culturally resonant take on the beloved K-drama.
This project marks Curtis’ return to TV after her last major role in ‘Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel’ in 2014, making it a highly anticipated comeback for her fans.
