Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid recently opened up about a recurring conversation he has with his wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, regarding the potential decline of their vocal abilities.
This revelation came during an episode of ‘.’
Ogie shared that they frequently discuss their fears and realizations about their singing careers. “Una, minsan kasi nahuhuli ko siya pinapanood niya ‘yong mga video niya noong bata pa siya, sasabihin niya sa akin: ‘Tingnan mo, o. Taas ng boses ko. Galing ko no’n, ‘no?’” Ogie recounted.
In response, Ogie reassures her by saying, “Sasabihin ko, hindi. Magaling ka pa rin hanggang ngayon. Iba lang ang estilo mo ngayon. Mas may puso ka nang kumanta.”
Ogie admitted that they feel the pressure of rising new talents. “Tapos sasabihin namin: ‘ang dami nang bago, ‘no? Ang dami nang magaling. Ang dami nang bata. Wala na siguro tayo.’ Sabi ko, ‘Ano ka ba? Oo, pero hindi naman wala. Nandito pa rin tayo.'”
He emphasized that it’s natural for new talents to emerge, especially in music. However, what’s important is knowing their place and earning the respect of the younger generation of singers.
In another part of the interview, Ogie humorously shared how he helps Regine when she struggles with off-pitch moments during her performances, particularly when he serves as her technician.
This candid discussion highlighted the couple’s humility and enduring passion for music, despite the inevitable changes that come with time.
