Miss Universe Philippines 2020, Rabiya Mateo, has successfully transitioned from the pageant stage to the world of showbiz.
After competing in the international Miss Universe pageant, Mateo has found her calling in acting, recently concluding her role in GMA Network’s afternoon soap, ‘Makiling,’ which earned her positive feedback.
“I’m so happy because acting, even if I’ve been doing it only lately, I get to love the job,” Mateo shared. “I didn’t start as a good actress right away, but I’m willing to learn and I’m willing to practice.”
Mateo will next appear in the period teleserye ‘Pulang Araw,’ set in the 1930s, where she will have a special participation role.
Reflecting on her journey, Mateo expressed her gratitude to GMA Network executive Annette Gozon, who identified her potential during the Miss Universe competition in Miami, Florida. “I’m thankful to Miss Annette because she didn’t forget me even after Miss Universe,” Mateo said. “For them to notice me after the beauty pageant and trusted me with TV projects, I am very grateful.”
In addition to her acting career, Mateo has taken on the role of ambassador for Royal Aesthetics Clinic. She recently joined Mrs. Universe Philippines 2023, Arlene Cris Damot, at an event for the clinic. “It is with great honor and pride to be the next ambassador of Royal Aesthetics Clinic,” Mateo stated. “Our outlook when it comes to beauty is the same. It’s important to be with a brand that shares a common denominator with you.”
Mateo also opened up about the pressures of maintaining her appearance as a public figure, highlighting the support she receives from Royal Aesthetics Clinic. “I don’t wake up every day looking beautiful,” she admitted. “It takes a village for me to look good always. Especially that I always struggle with my acne most of the time.”
Arlene Damot, owner and CEO of Royal Aesthetics Clinic, expressed confidence in Mateo as their brand ambassador. “I think Rabiya is the perfect brand ambassador for Royal Aesthetics Clinic,” she said, recalling their first meeting earlier this year.
Mateo extended her gratitude to her managers, Jeffrey de Leon, Renze Banawa, and Jan Navarro, for their unwavering support and guidance. “They always guide me in all the important decisions that I make,” she stated.
Rabiya Mateo’s evolution from beauty queen to actress and brand ambassador underscores her versatility and dedication.
