The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has received praise from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for its proactive response to ethical issues within the sports realm.
In response to a widely circulated video capturing a Petrogazz player engaging in inappropriate behavior during a live game broadcast, MTRCB expressed its support for PVL’s initiative. The league swiftly formulated a code of ethics and disciplinary regulations aimed at fostering a responsible sports environment.
On May 24, MTRCB summoned PVL’s leadership, show producers, and broadcasters (Nine Media and Cignal TV) to ensure adherence to ethical broadcasting standards. This meeting was crucial in reinforcing the importance of maintaining decorum and integrity in sports broadcasts.
“Nalulugod kami sa MTRCB na ang aming pag-uusap ay nag-ambag sa pagbuo ng isang mas etikal at responsableng sports environment,” stated Lala Sotto, Chairperson of MTRCB.
Highlighting the role of athletes as both competitors and role models, Sotto emphasized the need for heightened awareness and accountability in their conduct. “Tinitingala sila ng mga kabataan, kaya dapat silang maging mabuting halimbawa bilang mga atleta,” she added.
Petro Gazz’s Marian Buitre has been suspended by team management for an undisclosed amount of time, PVL president Ricky Palou confirmed.

PVL’s proactive approach was commendable, particularly in promptly drafting and implementing a comprehensive code of conduct. Commissioner Sherwin Malonzo affirmed that the new guidelines outline clear processes, penalties, and sanctions for any breaches.
