The members of the girl group BINI shared their personal struggles before rising to fame in the P-Pop world in a recent interview conducted by veteran journalist Karen Davila.
The candid discussion, aired on YouTube, provided insights into the challenges faced by each member on their journey to success.

The group revealed that their path to stardom wasn’t easy, starting from humble beginnings where they personally distributed flyers on the streets to promote their shows. This grassroots effort lasted for years, marked by moments of doubt and contemplation of giving up.
During the interview, Sheena, the main dancer of BINI, became emotional as she recounted feeling stagnant after dedicating one or two years of hard work to their craft. Despite rigorous training, they often performed to sparse audiences or received minimal attention during events, which took a toll on their morale.
“Siguro ‘nung umabot kami sa one year tapos two years nag-debut na kami, feeling ko walang nangyayari,” Sheena shared while being emotional. “Siyempre, ang daming time na –for example, sa mga events na if ever may meet and greet, may madadaanan lang. Tapos kapag nagpe-perform, hindi nanonood ‘yung mga tao, dinadaanan lang. Kasi grabe ‘yung training namin para daanan niyo lang.”
Maloi, the main vocalist, emphasized the sacrifices they made to pursue their dreams, including sacrificing family time and personal pursuits to focus entirely on their careers.
Maloi said, “Grabe po talaga ‘yung kinayod namin, as in kinayod po namin lahat ‘to. Sinacrifice namin ‘yung time namin for our families, for ourselves na talagang nag-focus kami sa BINI.”
“Pero sobra po ‘yung pasasalamat namin sa management, especially sa tatay namin na si Direk Lauren na inilaban po talaga kami na kahit wala pa kaming pinapatunayan, pero inilaban niya kami,” she added. “Kaya ngayon naggi-give back kami. Ginagawa namin ‘yung best namin and sobra kaming thankful sa BLOOMs namin, sa mga tao na grabe ‘yung pag-support and pagmamahal sa amin.”
Each member shared their individual struggles before joining BINI. Sheena drew inspiration from her late mother, who passed away during her training amidst the pandemic. Due to travel restrictions, Sheena was unable to attend her mother’s funeral, adding to her emotional burden.
Maloi took on the role of the breadwinner in her family, ensuring that her siblings received an education. Stacey, the lead dancer, supported her single mother’s dream of attending culinary school by funding her education.
Colet took responsibility for renovating her family’s home and supporting her siblings’ education, while Gwen recounted her upbringing in poverty and the odd jobs she took on to support her education and help her family overcome debt.

“Oh my God, ang babait pala ng mga batang ito! Guys, tama lang na iniidolo niyo sila. Napakababait!” said the journalist. “Alam niyo, naiiyak ako sa inyo kasi grabe ang responsibilidad ninyong mga babae.”
The candid interview provided fans and supporters with a deeper understanding of the diverse backgrounds and struggles of the BINI members, earning them respect and admiration from a broader audience.
