Actress and fashion influencer Heart Evangelista emphasized the importance of women supporting each other, rather than engaging in competition, especially within industries like show business where women often find themselves pitted against one another.
At her debut as the latest ambassador for Avon PH’s intimate apparel, held on the evening of May 2 at Brooklyn Warehouse in Recto, Manila, Evangelista addressed media inquiries regarding the role of female friendships in the broader context of women’s empowerment.
As a fervent advocate for uplifting fellow women and fostering a world where every woman feels confident and empowered, she shared her insights.
Evangelista stressed that one’s personality and character ultimately hold greater significance, particularly in an environment where women frequently feel compelled to view everything as a contest. She acknowledged the tendency for women to be critical of each other, especially in competitive industries. However, she emphasized the enduring importance of one’s character beyond career achievements.
“The honest truth, I feel like women can be tough on each other, especially in our industry. We grew up to think everything is a competition. You’re just as good as your number. But as you grow older, those will fade. Your career won’t be a career one day. It’s your heart that will stay,” she remarked.

The actress highlighted the significance of mutual support and humility in fostering strong female friendships. She advocated for women to uplift one another instead of engaging in rivalry.
“No one is perfect, it’s a test of time. Again only time will tell. Hopefully everybody will just help each other, not step on each other, be there for each other. All you have to do woman to woman is ask, when they see you’re humble by all means ‘Go I’ll help you,’ ganon naman ‘yon,” Evangelista added.
Evangelista shared her commitment to empowering fellow women in any way she can, acknowledging her own journey towards embracing her flaws and navigating criticism from others, particularly on social media.
“I try very, very hard. Syempre magpapakatao lang ako, ako naman rin, I don’t feel good about myself all the time, especially on social media ‘pag nilabas mo sarili mong ganon, you’re open to all comments and all of that. But I feel like I’m very immune, my strength, I’m stronger now. It’s definitely empowering to use what I have in my life in a sense to inspire and help other women,” she explained.
The Filipina socialite revealed that with age, she has gained confidence and learned to accept herself, offering advice to those still on their journey to self-acceptance.
“My advice in general for people or women who are not that at ease with who they are, ‘It’s alright. Don’t be hard on yourself. It’s normal. Pero konting pitik, konting suntok, konting ano pa mabi-build up mo rin ‘yung self-worth mo,” Evangelista concluded. “Ikaw mismo magmamahal sa sarili mo and the rest will follow. And even if they don’t love you, it doesn’t matter if you love yourself. That’s all. Winner ka.”
Heart Evangelista, a global fashion icon, now serves as the brand ambassador for Avon, the leading intimate apparel brand in the Philippines, advocating for female empowerment and self-confidence.
