During a media interview for ‘G! LU’ on April 15, Kapuso heartthrob Derrick Monasterio made a candid revelation about his past, shedding light on a wild phase in his life where he found a partner-in-crime in none other than David Licauco.
While Monasterio didn’t delve into specifics, he confessed to experiencing a typical wild phase, common among individuals in the industry, typically peaking between the ages of 20 to 24. What made this period memorable for him was the camaraderie he shared with Licauco.
“Wildest phase ng buhay. Siguro siyempre normal naman sa amin na nasa industry, ‘yung mga heydays namin, 20 to 24, ‘yan usually ang peak eh. Nagkaroon kami niyan, and ang maganda rito, ang kasama ko sa mga ganiyan ko, eh si David, hahaha. Lagi ko ‘yang kasama sa mga ganiyan,” he chuckled.
One example of their escapades was sneaking away between filming takes to enjoy the vibrant nightlife at Flotsam and Jetsam Hostel in La Union, a popular hotspot for partygoers.
“Kaya ang maganda, ‘pag andito na sa film, tamang ginagawa na namin ang movie, ‘yun talaga ‘yung bonding namin, ‘yun talaga ang ginagawa namin. Siyempre andoon sina Kat, sina Sophia, sina Maureen, so parang nagto-throwback kami na parang, ‘Uy ginagawa natin ‘to dati, hahaha,” he reminisced.
However, Monasterio emphasized that while those moments were part of his past, he has since matured and found direction in his life.
“Hindi naman mawawala iyon pero siguro ang pinaka-important dito is as we grow older is ‘yung character development namin. And as we mature in our life, makakakita kami ng mga taong magpapasaya sa amin and magpapa-realize sa amin na ito dapat ang trajectory ng life mo. ‘Yun ang importante, may growth kaming lahat, sa career, sa love, sa lahat,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, ‘G! LU’ explores themes of friendship, gender, mental health, and love, promising to be an engaging cinematic experience. Directed by Philip King, the film hits cinemas on April 24.
