Sofia Pablo is determined to alter people’s perceptions of her now that she has turned 18.
The actress, often known for her demure and sweet demeanor, faced criticism from some who labeled her as “pabebe,” a term suggesting immaturity. However, with her newfound legal adulthood and readiness to embrace more mature roles, Pablo aims to challenge these preconceptions, particularly those stemming from her time on “Prima Donnas.”
“Siguro resolution ko po pagka-eighteen ko is ‘yung mabago ko ang tingin ng tao sa akin na pabebe. I mean like not everyone’s saying it pero usually when I have bashers, that’s what they’re saying,” Pablo expressed at her pre-debut press conference on April 17 at Citadines Roces in Quezon City.
She defended herself, explaining that her portrayal of certain characters was misconstrued. Her interactions with leading men led some to misjudge her as “pabebe,” but she intends to clarify that it’s merely a portrayal, not her true persona.
“Hindi ko talaga siya mini-mean, like I really don’t mean to look that na pabebe. It’s just that ‘yung mga nagagawa ko po is always have a leading man, and I think it’s why they look at me like that. Pero now I’m eighteen, gusto ko ‘yung baguhin, ‘Guys! I’m not pabebe, it’s just my work,'” Pablo elaborated.
Independence is a key aspect she hopes will alter people’s perceptions.
“It’s my goal to be more independent because I’m dependent on my mommy. I’m a mommy’s girl. I can also be very shy and always turn to her for help… But now, I don’t want to stress her out,” she shared.
Certainly, viewers will witness a different side of Sofia Pablo when her upcoming series ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail’ airs on GMA Network.
