Rita Avila weighs in on ABS-CBN and ALLTV deal

Veteran actress Rita Avila has offered her insights into the recent high-profile agreement between ABS-CBN and ALLTV, shedding light on the complexities and pragmatism underlying the deal.

Avila’s commentary comes amidst mixed reactions to the collaboration between the two media giants, particularly in light of historical tensions and conflicting interests.

The contract, which entails the airing of ABS-CBN’s flagship programs such as TV Patrol on ALLTV, owned by the Villar family, has sparked both praise and criticism from various quarters. Notably, some ABS-CBN supporters expressed dismay over the partnership, citing ALLTV executive Camille Villar’s prior stance against the network’s franchise renewal.

Avila, however, offered a nuanced perspective, emphasizing the necessity of putting aside differences for the sake of progress in the business realm.

“Dahil sa business, naglunok sila ng pride,” Avila remarked, suggesting that both networks had made concessions in the interest of advancing their respective agendas.

Her remarks underscored the importance of pragmatism and cooperation amid the competitive landscape of the media industry.

Amidst lingering tensions stemming from past disputes, Avila urged stakeholders to focus on the present and future benefits of the collaboration. “Let us be grateful,” she remarked, urging observers to recognize the significance of the deal in fostering reconciliation and mutual growth.

The backdrop to this agreement is marked by political and corporate intricacies. In 2020, Camille Villar was among the representatives who voted against the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, a decision that reverberated across the media landscape.

Moreover, ALLTV’s acquisition of the Channel 2 frequency previously occupied by ABS-CBN further underscores the intricate dynamics at play in the industry.

Ironically, ABS-CBN’s return to Channel 2 under the ALLTV banner symbolizes a convergence of interests despite past conflicts. Avila’s commentary serves as a reminder of the pragmatic realities facing media entities, where strategic alliances and compromises are often necessary for survival and growth.
