This Sunday (March 31), Atom Araullo delves into the unwavering dreams of Filipinos in the world of boxing in the latest documentary of The Atom Araullo Specials, “Totoy Bagsik.”
The Philippines is recognized as a boxing powerhouse, producing some of the world’s greatest boxers, such as Manny Pacquiao. In the province of Masbate, not only adults but also some children are trying to make a name for themselves in this sport.
Atom meets nine-year-old Nilo. After school, Nilo heads straight home, skipping playtime to focus on his boxing practice. Lacking proper gloves, he improvises with strips of cloth wrapped around his hands. His usual punching bag is the banana trees near their house. Nilo diligently trains himself since he has a match scheduled in their area.
Like most aspiring Pinoy boxers, Nilo continues his training, driven by the goal he hopes to achieve with whatever prize he might receive from the upcoming provincial competition.
