Actress Katya Santos could not help but feel nostalgic on March 22 after starring in the upcoming Viva Film flick ‘Sunny.’
The film, directed by Jalz Zarate, features Santos, Ana Roces, Angelu de Leon, Sunshine Dizon, Tanya Garcia, Vina Morales, Candy Pangilinan, and Ana Roces. Notably, De Leon, Dizon, and Morales were prominent figures signed by Viva Films during the 1990s.
Santos, who joined Viva in 2003 as a member of the pop group Viva Hot Babes, transitioned from being a sex symbol to establishing herself as a versatile actress over the years. Now, as part of the Philippine adaptation of the 2011 hit Korean movie ‘Sunny,’ she found herself engulfed in a throwback experience, collaborating with some of Viva’s renowned talents.
“Ako, well, one throwback. Kasi siyempre original Viva baby din ako. So it’s nice to work with ate Vina, ‘yan sina Sunshine, sina Tanya kasi kami naman ang magkaka-batch before. So ‘yung thought lang na magkakasama kami, super throwback na at parang nostalgic na para sa akin,” she expressed in the middle of the movie’s press conference at Viva Cafe.
Apart from the sentimental moment of getting together for a Viva project, the film also made Santos remember her high school days, and she admitted to being a bit of a troublemaker.
“Na-reminisce ko din ‘yung high school days ko na siyempre, marami din akong kalokohan noong bata. So noong pinapanood ko, naaalala ko na parang, ‘Oo nga, ganyan na ganyan din ako noong high school.’”
Looking back, the actress shared some advice she would impart to her younger self: study well.
“‘Yung message ko siguro sa younger self ko na mag-aral kang mabuti talaga. Para kapag tumanda ka, mayroon ka palaging mapupuntahan sa buhay.”
Sunny is a story about a dying woman’s wish to bring together her high school friends one last time. It also includes Heaven Peralejo, Bea Binene, Aubrey Caraan, Abby Bautista, Ashtine Olviga, Ashley Diaz, Heart Ryan, Marco Gallo, and Xia Vigor.
The film will premiere on April 10 in cinemas.
