OPM artist Ice Seguerra continues to advocate for equal rights for same-sex couples, expressing hope that they will receive the same recognition as heterosexual couples.
Seguerra remains steadfast in his belief that LGBTQIA+ couples should have equal rights in the Philippines. This issue holds personal significance for Seguerra and his spouse, Liza Diño, as their marriage, legally recognized in America, is not acknowledged in their home country.
In a recent interview on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ Seguerra opened up about the challenges faced by same-sex couples, emphasizing the importance of government recognition.
“Laging merong pain na kasama kasi ‘yun nga eh, we’ve built a life together, and it’s so weird that business partners have more rights than couples like us na pareho naman, ‘di ba? Pareho naman kaming nagbabayad sa bahay,” Seguerra shared.
While they respect religious institutions, Seguerra and Diño advocate for state recognition of same-sex relationships. They believe it’s crucial for the government to acknowledge the existence of couples like them and grant them equal rights.
Seguerra also highlighted the difficulty of navigating bureaucratic processes, such as ticking the “single” box in marital status sections of documents.
“Nakakaiyak siya. Hindi ako single, eh. Alam ko may asawa ako eh. Bakit kailangang single ko i-tick? Doon ko lang din na-realize na ang swerte ng mga heterosexual couples na sometimes they even take it for granted. For people like us, na wala ‘yung ganoong karapatan, it means so much,” Seguerra expressed.
Seguerra and Diño tied the knot in San Francisco, California, in December 2014, followed by a second ceremony in Laiya, Batangas, in January 2015.
Meanwhile, fans eagerly await Seguerra’s upcoming concert, ‘Videoke Hits,’ scheduled to take place at the Music Museum on May 10 and 11. ‘Videoke Hits’ promises to be a karaoke extravaganza, allowing audience members to join in the fun and sing along to their favorite tunes.
With his unique twist on classic ballads and contemporary hits, Seguerra’s concert aims to provide an entertaining experience for all attendees.
Seguerra’s advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and his passion for music continue to resonate with audiences, making him a prominent figure in both the music industry and the fight for equality.
