The Kapuso sketch comedy show ‘Bubble Gang’ has been on the air for over two decades, and mainstays Betong Sumaya and Chariz Solomon revealed on March 15 their secret: teamwork and adaptability.
Sumaya pointed out those qualities in the launch of the “Best Time Ever” campaign at GMA Network’s Studio 6 in Quezon City.
“Team work talaga siya, and ‘yun nga, naga-adapt siyempre ang “Bubble Gang” sa kung anuman ang napapanahon,” the comedian said
He likened the show to a business, where pivoting is needed to ensure they stay “in business.”
“Kasi nga parang business nga, kailangan marunong kaming mag-pivot.”
A “pivot” in business terms is the move to change the direction of a business. This is done to meet the needs of the market.
In other words, Bubble Gang adapts and evolves its comedy style to what the audience prefers.
“Kaya nga andito sina Cheska (Fausto) sina Buboy (Villar), para nga naman nare-reperesent ang lahat ng age group,” Sumaya pointed. “I think ‘yun pa rin, tapos hindi lang nagse-settle sa ganitong klaseng sketch. So, kailangang nage-evolve palagi.”
Solomon added that the show’s nature of ensuring each skit is relevant is one reason it remains appealing to all age groups.
“On top of that, ang lahat ng magandang panoorin hindi lang naman about history, but also ‘yung present times; maganda din talaga siya, malaking factor siya, lalo na ‘pag sa comedy, ‘yung relevance na tinatawag. So, kailangang relevant ka pa rin palagi,” she explained.
The comedian also credited their director, Caesar Cosme, with giving the show the ability to “adapt to what’s happening [and] to what’s going on right now.”
As for the cast, humility is the one trait that makes the audience love them.
“Lagi kaming humble, ‘yun ang importante. Feeling mo ang galing mo? Hindi, nagtatanungan pa rin kami,” stressed Solomon.
Bubble Gang is part of GMA Network’s “Best Time Ever” campaign, which aims to encourage Filipinos to spend more quality time with their loved ones.
Apart from the sketch comedy show, the campaign also features “Family Feud,” “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” “Amazing Earth,” “Pepito Manaloto,” “I-Bilib,” and “The Boobay and Tekla Show.”
