ABS-CBN was denied of a new franchise after its previous lapsed in 2020.
Vice Ganda could not help but notice how ABS-CBN’s capacity became less, especially in terms of servicing the contestants and players of its various shows, after the network lost its legislative franchise in May 2020. The network applied for a new franchise but got denied.
During the March 4 episode of the noon time show, It’s Showtime, on the segment, Expecially For You, such diminished capacity of ABS-CBN was further shed light upon, when Vice Ganda asked the guest ex-couple about their trip from their hometown in Lucban, Quezon to ABS-CBN in Quezon City.
“Kanina po kasi, nag-commute kami from 3 AM —” Monica, one of the guests, answered, which Vice immediately cut off to ask if the ABS-CBN service van did not fetch them in their hometown. Monica promptly clarified she and her ex-partner, Rafa, only took the public transportation, and that no service van was available to fetch them.
“Wala na kasi kaming franchise kaya walang service” said Vice Ganda, who then recalled how ABS-CBN used to have many service vehicles to transport talents and contestants of its shows.
“Dati-rati andami naming service dito. Kahit taga-Pagadian ka, susunduin ka” he said, who then jokingly told what happened to ABS-CBN’s service vans, now that they are no longer deployed.
“Kasi yung mga dating ano (service vans) sa mga shows ng ABS, ginawa nang delivery sa Shopee“.
According to its official statement, ABS-CBN has no plans to re-apply for a new franchise, despite various reports that the network’s franchise may possibly be restored this year.
