A California-based Filipina has ventured into luxury clutch bags handcrafted by Filipino artisans and became an awardee in last year’s TOFA (The Outstanding Filipino Awards) held at Zipper Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Maria Victoria Mejia became the prestigious award-giving body’s recipient alongside other lady luminaries that included veteran journalist Jessica Soho and former Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo. She was named a National Awardee for fashion and style, as her Viktorya Minaudière bag collection featuring shell craftsmanship by Cebu artisans caught the attention of the Fil-Am community and Hollywood.
Mejia shared, “From the hands of Victoria’s Craft skilled artisans to your hands, you become a part of them and our beloved Philippines. You are not just acquiring a beautiful piece or helping us thrive. You are also supporting the dreams and future of all artisans working backstage.”
She added, “Each item is passed on from the skilled hands of Filipino artisans to the generous customer who becomes the proud owner of a masterfully crafted minaudière.”
Mejia will be among four Filipino designers set to take center stage at the Los Angeles Fashion Week powered by Art Hearts Fashion to be held at The New Mart in 9th St. L.A. on March 21.
Showstopper
According to Mejia, Viktorya Minaudière is designed to be a showstopper whether you’re attending a glamorous event or simply want to elevate your everyday style. The brand’s products effortlessly blend sophistication with a touch of playfulness, allowing you to express your individuality and make a statement so you feel confident and empowered wherever you go.
California-based singing celebrities Garth Garcia, Tootsie Guevara, and Jay R all carry and support the Viktorya Minaudière brand.
Minaudière refers to a jeweled evening bag for women of high taste. It is a term used to describe a small, decorative handbag that is typically carried by women for special occasions or formal events. It is known for its compact size, intricate design, and luxurious materials.
The family woman who regularly works full time in a hospital laboratory as a lab assistant attributes her quick rise in the world of fashion to the classy creations being produced by her company in the Philippines called Victoria’s Craft. Her name is fast-becoming synonymous to novelty bags crafted through Filipino ingenuity, with her collaboration with Cebu-based artisans ensuring that she also helps in providing livelihood to fellow Filipinos.
Tito Boy in the house
The Philippines’ King of Talk Boy Abunda, who hosted the 13th TOFA ceremony last October, stated that Mejia “aims to export her products globally including handcrafted earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.”
“Thank you TOFA board members for giving me this opportunity to be acknowledged in such a meaningful way,” Mejia told the crowd that also included other Fil-Am standouts.
She also expressed, “I am thankful for every hardship and trial I faced, as these have shaped me into the resilient and determined individual I am today.”
The Pinay achiever consistently makes note of the fact that her brand not only serves to empower fashion sense in this day and age but also give skilled Filipino artisans job opportunities anchored on their unique abilities.
Symbol of Pinoy artistry
Viktorya Minaudiere has gained recognition because of its timeless beauty and exceptional craftsmanship. It has become a symbol of Filipino artistry and creativity, showcasing the talent and dedication of hardworking Filipino artisans behind the brand.
The rising fashion figure launched her bag collection at the Philippine Fashion and Cultural Expo in L.A in October 2022. She also showcased her creations at the Musa fashion show held in New York.
Late last year, Viktorya Minaudière was seen multiple times at the Alexis Monsanto fashion show in Palos Verdes, LA Swim Week and LA Fashion Week powered by Art Hearts Fashion.
