‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?’ lead actors Paulo Avelino and Kim Chiu recently shared their perspectives on workplace romance, diverging from the romantic storyline portrayed in the show.
During a press conference held on Saturday, Avelino and Chiu expressed their personal stance against workplace relationships, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in the work environment.
Avelino highlighted the challenges of navigating romantic feelings in the workplace, urging individuals to prioritize maintaining a professional demeanor.
“It is always to be professional. I know in some cases, you can’t help but fall in love with someone in your workplace. But maybe, just choose an appropriate setting. But for me, I always want to be professional,” he remarked.
Chiu echoed Avelino’s sentiments, acknowledging the common occurrence of romantic entanglements in professional settings but stressing the potential drawbacks such relationships may pose to one’s work.
“Hindi maiwasan ‘yon, lalo na kung magkakilala kayo, ilang oras sa isang araw siya lang kausap mo. Pero mas importante siguro mas maayos trabaho kaysa personal na buhay mo. Siguro mag-suffer work… baka hindi ka makapag-concentrate sa work. Mas priority ‘yong trabaho,” she added.
Despite discouraging workplace romance, both actors assured viewers that the series’ romantic storyline between a secretary and her boss would remain compelling. Chiu described the boss character as “a very romantic type,” inviting viewers to contemplate the possibility of encountering such dynamics in real life.
During the media conference, Avelino praised Chiu’s performance and positive attributes, while Chiu reciprocated the praise, commending Avelino’s professionalism and humor.
The local adaptation of ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?’ is slated to premiere on March 18, 2024. The cast emphasized that the adaptation incorporates elements of Filipino culture to enhance its relatability to local audiences. Chiu noted that the Filipino team behind the production infused the series with Filipino touches, such as a focus on family values and comedic elements, reflecting the cultural pride of the production team.
