After dominating the charts with ‘Raining in Manila’, eight-piece pop-funk band Lola Amour is ready to welcome sunny days in their new era. In an intimate press event held at The Fun Roof Poblacion, Lola Amour finally announced the release of their self-titled debut album coming out on April 10. A promise they made to fans in 2019, the group wholeheartedly shared that the album serves as a creative playground where they can fully express themselves with sonic creativity while taking inspiration from their experiences. The band revealed the album’s visual identity during the press event, with each of the member’s quirkiness in mind. “We just really wanted to portray joy, fun, and playfulness sa album art to bring out the band’s playful personalities,” they stated. Along with the announcement, they also shared that a two-stop album launch is in the works. The first stop will be at Circuit Event Grounds on April 13, followed by a trip to Draft Punk, Cebu on April 27. Further announcements about the album launch will be posted on Lola Amour’s social media channels soon.
Lola Amour has come a long way from their debut EP ‘Don’t Look Back’, and they haven’t looked back since. “We want people to see how fluid our sound can be while sounding so much like Lola Amour,” the band states, as they push their creativity to greater heights with the album. The band teases the upcoming album with their latest single ‘Namimiss Ko Na’- an ode to the fleeting past, and finding happiness in the inevitable. In the band’s intimate listening party, the band previewed three songs off the record- a fun, upbeat track channeling the band’s inner Beastie Boys and Red Hot Chili Peppers type of jam, a funky reprise to their hit ‘Raining in Manila’, and a tribute dedicated to a friend the band dearly misses. Overall, the 9-track album fully showcases the band’s musical and storytelling skills, wrapped in their signature lyricism and fun pop sound their fans love. With a fully realized body of work that’s solely theirs, the band hopes that their music will continue to resonate with listeners as it tackles scenarios that hit close to home. “Our best songs are usually about facing the worst of times but when you take out the lyrics, the music behind it sounds fun. I think that reflects the feeling of acceptance that we all want to feel on our worst days.”
Since their inception in 2016, Lola Amour has opened up further about their run in the music industry and how they have been riding the tides of success for the past years. Along with the album reveal, they recount their career highlights- from full-house shows across the country, collaborations with industry giants, and surprise performances in world-class venues. ‘Raining in Manila’ proves to be one of the biggest hits in recent history, with over 119M streams to date, over 75M views for their official lyric video on YouTube, and a whopping 40K attendance in their first ‘Raining In Manila’ tour stop in Luneta. The song is also the first OPM track to simultaneously hit #1 across Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and YouTube Music charts. Filipino comedian and singer Michael V penned a parody with ‘Waiting Here Sa Pila’ as Lolo Kanor and has bagged the attention of KPop icons BAMBAM (of GOT7 fame) and ENHYPEN. The band also shared the stage with British pop titan Coldplay in their recent ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour at the Philippine Arena. Their earlier single ‘Fallen’- which paved the way to the band’s success, remains to be one of their most successful hits with over 130M streams on Spotify alone.
Whether you’re a die-hard Apo ni Lola from their Wanderband days or heard their hits on the radio, we can all agree that Lola Amour is the band to watch out for this 2024. Mark your calendars on April 10 for the most sought-after local release of the year. Get ready to get up on your feet and dance to Lola Amour’s music.
