Romanian-Filipina singer and theater actress Kayla Rivera ventures into TV hosting as she takes on one of the main hosting roles in TV5’s comedy game show ‘Barangay Singko Panalo.’
At a press conference on March 7, the singer-theater actress expressed her enjoyment in the new role, saying, “Nag-eenjoy ako sa lahat. I mean siyempre, ‘yung first love ko talaga is singing.”
Rivera initially entered the industry as a singer, participating in ABS-CBN’s now-defunct reality show Star Power. While she had some hosting experience, Barangay Singko marks her debut as a mainstream media host.
Despite her limited experience in TV hosting, Rivera was surprised to receive a call from TV5 to co-host Barangay Singko alongside Jerald Napoles. She eagerly embraces the responsibility and looks forward to demonstrating that she is more than just a singer.
“Sobrang grateful po ako na doon ako nakilala doon sa competition na sinalihan ko. But excited po ako na ilang years na, I’m so much older than when I joined the singing contest. So excited po ako na makita ‘yung audience namin na [to] see me do other things,” expressed the singer-theater actress.
‘Fortunately, Napoles is there to provide guidance. Rivera shared, “I immediately told Je that I have much to learn in comedy and in hosting, especially since I’m not as fluent in Tagalog. But Je and the directors assured me that it’s okay and that, in fact, my non-mastery of the language adds charm to my character in the show.”
She also hopes her journey can inspire children not to be afraid to explore different opportunities.
“Honestly, sana ma-inspire din ang mga bata. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Basta open ka sa you know, ibang opportunity, ibang fields of work, you can do it, you can try it, and baka magustuhan mo rin. So I’m excited na I’m able to give this a try, and I’m also really enjoying it.”
You can catch her as SK Kyla on Barangay Singko Panalo airing on March 11, Monday through Friday, at 5:30 p.m.
