Kapuso actress Jo Berry is set to grace the screens once again, this time in the highly anticipated GMA Afternoon Prime series titled ‘Lilet Matias: Attorney-At-Law.’
Following her success in the hit series ‘Little Princess,’ Berry is gearing up to embrace a new challenge in a narrative centered around themes of hope, justice, and self-discovery.
The series marks a significant milestone for Berry, who describes her role as Lilet Matias as one of her most demanding to date. Transitioning into the character of a lawyer in a legal drama has presented its unique set of challenges, particularly in mastering the nuances of courtroom scenes.
In an interview with the media, Berry shared her meticulous approach to preparing for the role, including seeking recommendations from the show’s creative team and immersing herself in legal dramas like ‘Suits’ and ‘Boston Legal.’
Berry’s dedication to authenticity stems from her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer—a dream she now gets to fulfill vicariously through her portrayal of Lilet Matias.
“Trust yourself. That’s the No. 1 thing you need,” said Jo in the TV interview, “Kasi kapag wala kang tiwala sa sarili mo, hindi mo ma-a-achieve ang kahit na ano and, of course, you always remember that everyone encounters challenges. So, use them as fuel to strive to be the better version of yourself.”
The actress sees her role as an opportunity to advocate for justice, particularly for underrepresented communities, and hopes to inspire viewers with the character’s unwavering determination and resilience.
“What’s really being discussed in it as an advocacy is, of course, justice for everyone, not just for powerful people and rich people,” said she. “It’s for all. Everyone has the right to seek and find justice in their lives.”
Reflecting on her journey from the corporate world to the entertainment industry, Berry expressed gratitude to GMA for providing her with a platform to showcase her talent and promote meaningful advocacy. With each project, she strives to entertain audiences while also shedding light on important social issues.
“Kasi alam ko po na nandito ako ay hindi lang for myself, kundi para na din sa kanila.”
As ‘Lilet Matias: Attorney-At-Law’ prepares to make its debut on GMA Afternoon Prime, Berry encourages viewers to trust in themselves and pursue their dreams relentlessly. With expert guidance and a commitment to authenticity, Berry is poised to deliver a captivating performance that will resonate with audiences both locally and internationally.
