In an interview, actor and public servant Alfred Vargas opened up about the various aspects of his life, shedding light on his experiences as a father, politician, and artist, as well as his reflections on the recent loss of a colleague.
Vargas spoke candidly about the joys and challenges of parenthood. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to welcome a new addition to his family, his newborn daughter Aurora Sofia. The actor credited his wife, Yasmine, for her unwavering support and the dedicated staff for their assistance, enabling him to balance his responsibilities effectively.
Reflecting on the sudden passing of veteran actress Jaclyn Jose, Vargas conveyed his shock and sadness. He reminisced about their time together on the set of “Pieta” and praised Jose for her invaluable contributions to the Philippine film industry. Vargas emphasized the need to honor Jose’s legacy through continued appreciation of her work.
“Super nagulat ako. Tumindig ang balahibo ko when i heard the sudden news over the phone. ‘Di ako makapaniwala. Super nakakalungkot. Parang kailan lang ay nagshooting kami for PIETA at super ok pa siya nun. Wala akong nakitang karamdaman niya. Hindi talaga expected itong nangyari sa kanya.”
“I am eternally grateful to Ms. Jane dahil sa mga naituro niya sakin at experiences ko with her. We lost a pillar of Philippine cinema too soon.”
Addressing the future of ‘Pieta,’ Vargas assured fans of the film that special screenings would be organized nationwide and abroad to commemorate Jose’s memory. He emphasized the significance of preserving her impact on Philippine cinema.
“Hindi natin pwede talikuran ang mga Noranians. Kaliwa’t kanan ang requests nila for special screenings all over the Philippines and even abroad! Grabe bumabaha ng messages sa FB ko. Talagang gusto nilang panoorin ang Superstar.”
“Kaya yung ang gagawin natin. We have special screenings muna for all Noranians all over the country. Iikot ang PUETA sa iba’t ibang sulok ng bansa at ng mundo.”
Looking ahead to his future in filmmaking, Vargas discussed the importance of selecting the right projects following the success of ‘Pieta.’ While numerous proposals have been presented, he stressed the need for careful consideration in choosing the next venture.
“Yung pagproduce naman madali na kasi marami nang lumalapit sa atin for their story concepts and ideas. At ang daming magagandang projects na pwede gawin! Napupundo na ang baul! It’s just a matter of picking the right project after PIETA. Honestly, mahirap kasing sundan ang NORA-GINA-JACLYN ng PIETA kaya pinag-iisipan talaga naming partners yan.”
In discussing his multifaceted roles as a father, husband, politician, and actor, Vargas underscored the importance of discipline in managing his schedule. He expressed appreciation for his wife’s hands-on approach to family life and acknowledged the dedication of his staff in supporting his political endeavors.
As he looks toward the future, Vargas shared his aspirations to maintain a healthy lifestyle and continue serving his constituents diligently.
