Alex Calleja and The Comedy Crew are poised to make headlines as they become the first Filipino comedians to grace the stage at the Dubai Comedy Festival in the United Arab Emirates.
Originally planned to be performed in English, Calleja decided to switch to Filipino after noticing a significant number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) tuning in to their online content in Tagalog. This decision aims to provide entertainment and comfort to homesick Filipinos living abroad.
Expressing both excitement and pressure, Calleja sees this opportunity as a proud moment to showcase Filipino humor on an international platform.
Joining Calleja on stage will be Israel Buenaobra, Jeps Gallon, and Mak Navares, marking a historic moment as the first full-blooded Filipino comedians to perform at the esteemed Dubai Opera on April 13, 2024, Saturday.
In addition to their Dubai appearance, Calleja and The Comedy Crew are set to entertain audiences with sold-out shows in Singapore on March 25 and 26, further expanding their global reach and promoting Filipino comedic talent on the world stage.
Calleja hopes that their international performances will pave the way for more opportunities for Filipino comedians, especially for members of The Comedy Crew, whose mission is to spread Filipino humor worldwide.
Comprising 18 talented comedians from diverse regions of the Philippines, The Comedy Crew aims to highlight the richness and diversity of Filipino culture through laughter.
To support their endeavors and reach a broader audience, Calleja announced the launch of an official website featuring profiles of crew members, show schedules, and information about upcoming open mic nights, providing fans with easy access to their comedic content.
