Television host and actress Toni Gonzaga firmly declared that she will not be making a return as the host of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ (PBB) anytime soon.
Gonzaga shared her perspective during a guest appearance on the radio show ‘The Baklitas,’ where she emphasized the importance of giving new hosts the opportunity to shine.
Gonzaga, who was part of the hosting ensemble for PBB’s 16th season, alongside well-known personalities such as Bianca Gonzalez, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, Melai Cantiveros, Enchong Dee, Sky Quizon, and Richard Juan, conveyed that she believes it’s time for a fresh set of hosts to take the reins.
The 16th season spanned from October 2021 to May 2022, and Gonzaga bid farewell to the show in February 2022.
Acknowledging the current hosts of PBB, Gonzaga expressed confidence in their capabilities, stating, “The hosts of ‘PBB’ now are exceptionally talented, and I’m sure they will continue Kuya’s legacy,” referring to the show’s iconic figure, Big Brother.
During the interview, Gonzaga admitted to missing her work on television but highlighted her decision to be more intentional and selective about her projects moving forward. She explained that she now approaches each project with a heightened sense of excitement and purpose, as opposed to the autopilot mentality of her earlier career.
Gonzaga’s departure from PBB became official shortly after she hosted the proclamation rally for then-presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. The actress faced criticism for introducing Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, a vocal opponent of ABS-CBN’s franchise, as part of the Marcos Jr.-Duterte senatorial slate during the rally.
ABS-CBN has confirmed the return of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ for a new season in 2023, featuring hosts such as Bianca Gonzalez, Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, and Melai Cantiveros.
