South Korean rising star MEMI will be making her US debut this March at SXSW 2024.
The rock sensation will line up alongside other exciting Asian acts as part of the two-day event “FRIENDS:FOREVER”, presented by American entertainment company Jaded, at the iconic Empire Garage and Control Room. This will be the first time MEMI is performing in the USA.
The “FRIENDS:FOREVER” showcase will also include other prominent Asian acts such as Thuy, Se So Neon, Rei Ami, Audrey Nuna, 1300, Mong Tong and Subsonic Eye. The two-day event will take place across March 14 and 15, an expansion of last year’s one-day showcase. MEMI’s set will take place from 8pm to 8.40pm CST on March 14.
Last year, Jaded presented the “Tiger Den” event alongside South Korean hip-hop collective Balming Tiger at SXSW 2023. The event featured rising acts from Asia such as Shye, The Chairs, 9m88, LØREN, Sogumm, Ena Mori and Lunadira.
With over 437,000 followers on Instagram and over 435,200 followers on TikTok, MEMI has captured the attention of many fans and audiences across the world since 2022 through her guitar content on social media, gaining attention from some of the biggest acts in the world such as Fred Durst and Phoenix, who have all previously engaged with her content.
She released her debut EP M3MI in December 2023, which was quickly followed by her first solo show in South Korea, held at CJ azit in Seoul. Known for her tracks such as ‘Guitar Pick’, ‘Thin Lips Club’ and ‘Sorry for my late reply’, MEMI is quickly becoming one of South Korea’s most exciting rising stars to look forward to this year. She is also known for her role as guitarist with South Korean indie band 24HOURS.
