From playing title roles to lead roles in top-rating ensemble dramas, the Pinoy Big Brother alumna found her place among her home network’s most prized talents.
Nearly twenty years into her showbiz career, Kim Chiu continues her stellar journey as an undisputed local entertainment royalty, becoming a constant presence in the constellation of the industry’s brightest stars. Since winning the first ever edition of Pinoy Big Brother Teens in 2006, Chiu meteorically emerged as one of ABS-CBN’s prized young stars. She has since starred a number of lead and important roles, most of which certified top raters and household favorites.
Chiu first took on a lead teleserye role in 2007, via Sana Maulit Muli, which subsequently established her team-up with Gerald Anderson. Before this, she had other lead roles in drama-anthologies, where her undeniable chemistry with Anderson was first noticed. Their partnership grew into follow-up TV projects, including highly-celebrated ensemble dramas, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo (2008), Tayong Dalawa (2009). She was the title role in ABS-CBN’s 2008 adaptation of the Korean drama, My Girl. Beyond television, Chiu and Anderson’s onscreen team-up fostered in film, via First Day High (2006), I’ve Fallen For You (2007), Paano Na Kaya (2009), and Till My Heartaches End (2010). In 2017, they had their long-awaited TV team-up via the daytime series, Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin, which soared in the ratings game.
After KimeRald, Chiu began another blockbuster onscreen tandem, this time with Xian Lim, with whom she would star numerous TV and movie projects, in the next 10 years of their career. Both topbilled big ensemble dramas, My Binondo Girl (2011), Ina, Kapatid, Anak (2012), The Story of Us (2016) and Love Thy Woman (2020). In movies, their tandem dominated the box office, with their biggest hits, Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo? (2013), Bride For Rent (2014). Cementing her stature as a true TV royalty, she soared in Ikaw Lamang (20124, her first lead role beyond KimeRald and KimXi, and opposite Primetime King, Coco Martin. In 2018, she began a hosting stint for Pinoy Big Brother. She has been one of It’s Showtime‘s lead hosts, since 2020. In 2023, she hosted Idol survival show, Dream Maker.
Through Linlang in 2023, the 33-year old actress, proved that her reign transcends the traditional form of television, with the infidelity-themed series achieving phenomenal success (on a global scale!) via Prime Video. And it is notably also through the same series that she once again proved her enduring reputation as a primetime royalty.
After logging the highest debut rating for an ABS-CBN show on the 8;45 PM slot, Linlang, The Teleserye Version proceeded to setting new records, including the highest rated episode by a series on the second primetime drama slot, since ABS-CBN franchise denial in 2020. It subsequently became ABS-CBN’s series to register double-digit ratings on its timeslot, in four years.
This year, as she moves further forward in her career, beyond the love teams that previously catapulted her to unrivaled success, Chiu tracks her way to heights previously unreached, achieving more remarkable accomplishments that only royalties like her are bound to make.
Still poised to remain one of the most visible A-listers on local television in 2024, she looks forward to another year of record-setting feats and successes, ones that will undeniably demonstrate her prowess as a true teleserye and television royalty.
