Actress Iza Calzado became emotional as she revisited the difficult memories of her childhood and the challenges of motherhood.
Calzado recalled the struggles her mother, Mary Ann Ussher, faced with depression, particularly after giving birth to her sibling. She shared how this experience impacted her and influenced her apprehensions about starting her own family.
During the interview on ‘On Cue’ with Gretchen Fullido, Calzado emphasized that her husband, Ben Wintle, was aware of her family’s past and patiently navigated through their journey together. She highlighted the importance of self-improvement and the application of parenting knowledge in raising her child, Deia.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Calzado discussed her mother’s resilience in dealing with life’s challenges independently. She praised her late father, Lito Calzado, for bringing joy and spontaneity to their lives amidst difficult times.
Despite the hardships, Calzado expressed gratitude for the lessons learned from her childhood experiences and emphasized the importance of forgiveness and growth.
“My mother never saw me enter this business. She didn’t even see me on TV which was her childhood dream for herself and for me. ‘Yung tatay ko ang gusto lang no’n ikasal ako at magkaroon ako ng anak, ‘yun lang ang hinihintay niya e,” Calzado shared emotionally, dedicating her journey to her parents and seeking their guidance through prayer.
