Actress and former Miss Universe, Gloria Diaz, reiterated her stance that only women should compete in the renowned Miss Universe pageant, emphasizing the importance of preserving the competition’s original essence.
During a recent appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ accompanied by her daughter Isabelle Daza, Diaz addressed the topic of the Miss Universe Organization’s new regulations for the international beauty contest.
Diaz firmly expressed her belief that Miss Universe should remain exclusively for women contestants, regardless of the evolving social landscape.
“Basically, in ordinary words, kailangan transvestite, kailangan may Miss Transvestite Universe. Tomboy, Miss Tomboy Universe. Bakla, transgender, whatever, lahat ng politically correct, kanya-kanya. Sa Miss Universe, dapat Miss Universe,” Diaz articulated.
She highlighted the prevalent trend of contestants resorting to cosmetic enhancements post-competition, a practice she disapproves of.
“Kasi ngayon, dyo-join ka isang beses, medyo natalo ka, makikita mo ang ilong mo, medyo pango, sige, gawin mong maayos. Maliit ang boobs, taasan mo boobs. Ako, open ako for other people. But not for me. Not for my daughter,” Diaz remarked.
Diaz humorously reminisced about advising her daughter to participate in Miss Universe and create a scandal if she didn’t win, underscoring the importance of embracing one’s identity.
Echoing her mother’s sentiments, Isabelle Daza emphasized the significance of distinguishing between equality and fairness in competitions like Miss Universe.
