Kapamilya singer Erik Santos recently shared insights into his career journey, including a significant audition experience at GMA Network, during a guest appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.’
Accompanied by Asia’s Limitless Star, Julie Anne San Jose, Santos revealed a lesser-known chapter of his past, highlighting his perseverance in the entertainment industry.
“Lingid sa kaalaman po ng iba, marami rin po akong mga audition na sinalihan. At isa sa unang auditions ko was here in GMA. Yun po yung hindi alam ng mga tao,” Santos admitted.
Contrary to popular belief, Santos disclosed that he had previously auditioned for a talent search contest at GMA Network, over two decades ago.
Despite undergoing rigorous tests, including singing, dancing, and acting, he was not successful in securing a spot in the competition. Reflecting on this setback, Santos emphasized the challenges and rejections he faced early in his career.
“Sa first call, tinawagan nila ako, pero nung mga sumunod na, hindi na,” he added.
However, Santos’ persistence ultimately paid off when he emerged as the grand champion in the inaugural season of ABS-CBN’s ‘Star In A Million’ in 2004. This significant milestone marked a turning point in his career, catapulting him to fame and solidifying his position in the music industry.
Acknowledging the changes he underwent as his career flourished, Santos admitted to occasional lapses in punctuality but stressed his commitment to professionalism and respect for his colleagues’ time in recent years. Furthermore, he shared valuable lessons learned during his 21-year tenure in the industry, emphasizing the importance of understanding audience preferences and delivering performances that resonate with them.
As Santos prepares for his upcoming concert titled ‘Love Bound’ at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on March 2, fans eagerly anticipate another captivating performance from the seasoned singer.
