On January 24, director Easy Ferrer addressed the mixed reaction from the cosplay community with their Vivamax film Pantasya ni Tami.
At the media conference for Pantasya ni Tami, which LionhearTV covered, Ferrer assured the cosplay community that their sexy film wouldn’t present cosplayers in a negative light.
“Nako actually, ang dami ko nang basang reaction, mostly may mga negative, mayroon ding mga na-excite and all. Lahat naman talaga ng lalabas na project, laging may negative and positive. So ‘yung sa mga nagre-react ng positive, siyempre natutuwa ako dahil naiintindihan nila where we are coming from, what story we want to tell.
“And siyempre sa mga negative, we are here to prove to them that this story we are presenting is not to put them in a negative light [or] abuse them–or marginalize them. It’s more of we’re trying to present a story na alam namin na pwede naming ikwento na in such a way na walang madi-disrespect na kahit sino.”
He also attested that he respected the cosplay community when they made the film.
“I respect those opinions kasi this is a community na mayroon silang tinitignan na sacredness to themselves. Hindi naman natin pwedeng sabihin na– kasi this is a community na mayroon silang tinitignan na sacredness with themselves.
“Hindi naman natin pwedeng sabihin na grabe naman kayo, bakit naman kayo ganyan inaano ninyo. Hindi eh, they have this kind of respect and parang personal na pag-iingat sa sarili nila.”
He then noted how he ensured that they were careful not to cross any line when depicting the story of Patansya ni Tami.
“And kami rin naman, as filmmakers, kailangan din namin pag-ingatan ‘yun. So that’s why this movie, kahit sabihin natin on the surface na parang crossing the line, iniingatan namin how we tell the characters, how we portray the people na may mga ganong sa industriya na ‘yun.”
As for their film, Patansya ni Tami stars Azi Acosta, Jiad Arroyo, Ali Asistio, Erika Balagtas, Shiena Yu, Zia Zamora, PJ Rosario, Mhack Morales, Mikhael Padua, Justin Mc, Shirley Fuentes, and Rey Pj Abellana.
Under the direction of Topel Lee and Easy Ferrer, Pantasya ni Tami started streaming on Vivamax on January 26.
