In an interview with journalist Bernadette Sembrano, Antoinette Taus voiced her firm belief that embarking on a family life is not a prerequisite for attaining happiness and fulfillment.
“I really just wanna accept God’s plan. I really tried to empower myself na sinabi ko: ‘Bakit ba? E, ang dami ko namang kilala na walang asawa, walang anak, or hindi nag-work out ‘yong relationships, and they’re actually some of the greatest human beings I know,” Antoinette elaborated during the conversation.
She further highlighted that societal norms suggesting that starting a family equates to success are misguided, asserting, “I refuse to believe that you have to fall into these boxes, into these parang stereotypes para masabing successful ka or ‘Uy, achieve na achieve ka sa buhay’.”
Despite her single status, Antoinette attests to leading a content life. “I feel like at the end of the day, tuloy-tuloy lang ang laban no matter what. And we have to embrace and believe in our purpose,” she added.
Antoinette also observed a positive shift in society’s acceptance of diversity, inclusion, and the choice to remain single, without the undue pressure to conform to traditional family norms.
Renowned as a teen actress in the 90s for her roles in popular shows like ‘Anna Karenina’ and ‘T.G.I.S.,’ Antoinette Taus has extended her influence beyond the entertainment realm. Passionate about sustainability and social justice, she serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Environment Programme.
Additionally, she established CORA, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development through volunteerism. Antoinette also founded The Sustainable Planet, a social enterprise aimed at supporting indigenous communities and individuals living in impoverished conditions.
