Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) has officially renamed its long-standing noontime variety show on GMA Network, opting for ‘Tahanang Pinakamasaya’ after a recent court ruling favored Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon—collectively known as TVJ—as the original creators of the ‘Eat Bulaga’ trademark.
The Marikina Regional Trial Court issued the directive on January 5, instructing TAPE Inc. to discontinue the use of the ‘Eat Bulaga’ name.
Responding promptly, the noontime show, currently hosted by Paolo Contis and Isko Moreno, unveiled its new name during the episode aired on January 6.
Isko Moreno addressed the court’s decision on the show, acknowledging the network’s commitment to comply with the ruling and emphasizing a continued dedication to providing a positive and joyful atmosphere for viewers. He expressed gratitude for ongoing audience support and reiterated the show’s mission to deliver entertainment and surprises.
During the episode, hosts carefully avoided referencing ‘Eat Bulaga’ or displaying any associated logos. Instead, they focused on introducing viewers to the program’s new identity, ‘Tahanang Pinakamasaya.’
In celebration of their legal victory, TVJ marked the occasion by singing the ‘Eat Bulaga’ theme song while donning t-shirts featuring the original show’s name on their TV5 noontime show.
Vic Sotto shared sentiments of authenticity and destiny, stating, “Eto ang totoo. Eto ang tinadhana. Eto ang tunay na ‘Eat Bulaga.'”
TAPE Inc. has communicated its intention to appeal the court ruling, indicating that the legal dispute over the use of the ‘Eat Bulaga’ name remains ongoing.
