Star Cinema’s entry for the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), ‘Rewind,’ has emerged as the highest-grossing Filipino film in terms of domestic box office sales, securing an outstanding P815 million as of January 17.
This remarkable accomplishment surpasses the previous records set by 2019’s ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye,’ which earned P691 million, and 2018’s ‘The Hows of Us,’ with a box office tally of P690 million.
On a global scale, ‘Rewind’ has garnered an impressive P845 million and has set its sights on overtaking ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’ to become the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, a title currently held by the latter with a worldwide total gross of P880 million.
During a heartfelt thanksgiving event, the lead stars of ‘Rewind,’ real-life couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, expressed their gratitude.
We are so grateful we were able to tell the story.”
ABS-CBN executives, including Chairman Mark Lopez and President Carlo Katigbak, praised the film’s success as a testament to the company’s commitment to storytelling.
Lopez emphasized, “Today, that is what we are, a storytelling company. We are a content company, and that is what we do best. I hope we can continue to create great movies like this in the future… we raised the bar again.”
Katigbak described ‘Rewind’ as “a very special film” that “will surely go down in history as one of the movie greats, a true classic.”
Kriz Gazmen, Managing Director of Star Cinema, hailed the milestone as a triumph for the entire Philippine movie industry, which faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gazmen also revealed that the film’s international run is continuing in over 300 cinemas worldwide, including Canada, Guam, and Saipan. Additionally, ‘Rewind’ is poised to make its debut in cinemas in the Middle East after receiving clearance on Wednesday evening.
