The Star Circle Quest alumnus had small to major appearances in three of the highest-grossing Filipino films of all time, produced and distributed by Star Cinema.
‘The Hows of Us‘, ‘Hello, Love Goodbye‘, and now ‘Rewind. Think of a category that these three Filipino films fall under. You’re right that they’re all produced by Star Cinema, the biggest movie outfit in the country, and that they’re all mega blockbuster releases!
Amusingly, all these films also featured Joross Gamboa! In Hello Love, Goodbye, he played Jim, one of Alden Richards’ best buddies. In The Hows of Us, he had a small role as a ‘buyer’, and in Rewind, he’s again the buddy of the male lead, this time, Dingdong Dantes.
What’s with him?, netizens ask, is he the lucky charm of Star Cinema? It seems his presence drives any film he stars in to immense box office success! Gamboa also notably starred in earlier Star Cinema films, which all performed inordinately in the box office, among which includes KathNiels’s Can’t Help Falling in Love in 2017,which collected more than ₱320 million in box office sales, LizQuen’s My Ex and Whys which grossed more than ₱400 million in the same year, and the mega blockbuster hits, Starting Over Again (grossed more than ₱410M) and It Takes A Man and A Woman (grossed more than ₱385 M), released in 2014 and 2013, respectively
Kidding aside, this latest feat from Star Cinema only proves that it remains the biggest and most commercially successful film studio of our time.
Rewind seems to signal the return of local cinema to normalcy, and with such a feat that already obliterated domestic box records (and soon, worldwide), more local releases are now poised to dominate the Philippine movie scene!
