This week marked the debut of two GMA Network shows; how did they perform in TV ratings?
On January 15, Monday, the Kapuso primetime series ‘Love.Die.Repeat’ and ‘Asawa Ng Asawa Ko’ premiered on television. According to the latest Nielsen NUTAM People survey, the initial ratings for both shows were less than stellar.
‘Love.Die.Repeat (LDR)’ garnered a rating of 7.9 percent, edging out its Kapamilya counterpart, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ by a mere 0.2 percent, as the latter scored 7.7 percent. However, excluding the delayed telecast ratings on GVT, LDR’s score dropped to 7.3 percent, making it 0.4 percent lower than CBML.
Starring Jennylyn Mercado and Xian Lim, the series was originally slated for a 2021 release, but the show faced delays when Mercado became pregnant at the time.
LDR tells the story of Angela (portrayed by Jennylyn), who grapples with the loss of her husband, Bernard (played by Xian), in a vehicular accident. Overwhelmed by grief, she regrets not spending more time with him and questions why he was taken away so soon. However, Angela soon realizes she is trapped in a time loop, reliving the day her husband died. Initially perceiving it as a heavenly gift to save her husband, Angela soon discovers the consequences of breaking the time loop, leading to pain beyond her imagination.
Similarly, another Kapuso primetime series, ‘Asawa ng Asawa Ko (ANAK),’ failed to secure its timeslot during its pilot episode. ANAK received a rating of 4.7 percent, trailing behind its rival ‘Senior High,’ which scored 5.7 percent.
Directed by the acclaimed Laurice Guillen and featuring Rayve Cruz and Jasmine Curtis-Smith, the series unfolds the story of Cristy (played by Jasmine), who finds herself in unfamiliar territory when she realizes she no longer fits into the lives of her husband Jordan (Rayver) and their daughter Tori due to her prolonged absence.
Can LDR and ANAK recover and surpass their Kapamilya counterparts in the days ahead, or will they continue to face challenges in the competitive TV landscape?
