Actresses Iza Calzado and Toni Gonzaga recently took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about their beginnings at GMA Network, where they each launched their illustrious careers.
The two stars, who notably shared the screen in Star Cinema’s ‘Starting Over Again,’ fondly recalled their formative years as Kapusos.
Calzado, reflecting on her projects at GMA Network, recounted significant shows such as ‘Eat Bulaga’ and ‘All My Love.’ She specifically remembered dubbing work even before her iconic stint on ‘Eat Bulaga,’ expressing a sense of nostalgia for her early experiences in the industry.
Gonzaga playfully recalled, “Iza Calzado, nag-dub niyan,” referencing her co-star’s dubbing contributions before the memorable ‘Eat Bulaga’ period. Calzado delved into her journey from doing commercials, mentioning shows like ‘Kung Mawawala Ka,’ ‘Mis Tres Hermanas,’ and ‘Te Amo.’ She emphasized her childhood dream of entering showbiz and shared the story of temporarily leaving the industry as a child when faced with weight gain and self-consciousness.
“Bata ako, gusto ko talaga [mag-artista] dahil si daddy nasa industriya. Nag artista ako for a bit nung bata ako. I wanted to be in That’s Entertainment,” revealed Calzado. However, she candidly disclosed her hiatus from the industry during her youth due to self-consciousness.
After nearly a decade at GMA Network, Calzado bid farewell to the network in 2012. In 2023, she made a return to the Kapuso network, expressing gratitude to everyone who left a lasting impact on her life, regardless of their network affiliation.
“Hello, mga Kapuso! It’s nice to be back. Hindi ko sukat akalain na mangyayari ito. So much has changed, but so many things are still the same. The love that I have for the people in this business, regardless of which station you’re from, basta nakatrabaho kita, and you made an impact in my life, siyempre hindi ako nakakalimot,” affirmed Calzado.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga, who commenced her career with GMA Network, initially graced ‘Bubble Gang’ and became one of the original hosts of the long-standing noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga’ from 2002 to 2005 before later transitioning to ABS-CBN.
