On January 10, Eric Quizon and Epy Quizon shared their views about doing comedies amid current sensibilities and political correctness.
At the media conference for 3-in-1, which LionhearTV covered, actor-director Eric Quizon remarked that people have different levels of humor.
“Mahirap talaga magpatawa ng tao. Kasi bawat tao, iba-iba ‘yung humor, ‘yung level ng humor. Like ako, actually madali akong patawanin, akala mo ganito ako, pero madali akong patawanin. Si Bearwin super daling patawanin nito. Pero may mga taong seryoso.”
He also noted the Filipinos’ brand of larger-than-life comedy.
Kailangan lang parang maging mas larger than life lang ‘yung ginagawa mo. Dapat mas expressive siya.”
He then surmised that the younger generation was more sensitive and focused on being politically correct.
He expressed that comedy should be free to express itself but acknowledged that it has to have its limits and parameters depending on its audience.
As for the first-time director, Epy Quizon, he agreed with Eric’s assessment about the younger generation, citing how their production makes sure to cut those offensive jokes on the set of their Net25 sitcom.
“Yes, very highly sensitive na ang tao ngayon when they watch comedy. That’s why as directors, as a creative team, we’re also sensitive with the jokes that we say.
He then affirmed that they need to be responsible in monitoring the type of jokes they showcase in 3-in-1.
“So, I guess, kailangan lang talaga bantayan namin kung ano ‘yung mga binibitawan namin and be more responsible in terms of identifying our target audience.”
As for their Net25 sitcom, 3-in-1 stars Maricel Soriano, Eric Quizon, Epy Quizon, Vito Quizon, Vandolph Quizon, Boy 2 Quizon with Bearwin Mailey, Long Mejia, Tya Ruth, and Donna Cariaga.
Under the co-direction of Eric Quizon and Epy Quizon, 3-in-1 airs on Sundays starting January 14.
