Social media personality turned TV star Toni Fowler is facing legal troubles as an arrest warrant has been issued by the Pasay City Court on Friday, January 19.
The warrant is in connection with a criminal case filed by the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KSMBP), accusing Fowler of violating freedom of expression due to the supposed “obscene” content in her music video for the song ‘MPL.’
The charges, filed in September 2023, allege that Toni Fowler violated Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, particularly in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The court recommended a bail amount of P120,000.
ABS-CBN reported that Toni Fowler promptly posted bail for her temporary release a few hours after her arrest.
Toni Fowler had previously denied the accusations made by KSMBP, emphasizing that the video did not display sex organs but rather sex toys. She defended her right to express herself, own her story, opinions, and femininity. Fowler criticized KSMBP’s attempt to impose restrictions on her actions, asserting that they have no right to dictate the actions of women like her.
As of now, Toni Fowler has not released an official statement regarding the issuance of the arrest warrant.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges social media influencers face in navigating freedom of expression and public scrutiny.
