On January 17, comedians Anjo Yllana and Janno Gibbs recounted having a misunderstanding early in their 30-year friendship.
At the media conference for Itutumba ka ng Tatay Ko, which LionhearTV covered, Yllana revealed he and Gibbs had a misunderstanding during the first year of working in Ober Da Bakod in 1992.
“Tsaka hindi ko alam ‘yung mga secrets ni Janno noon, vibes na kami pagdating sa comedy. Pero that time, akala ko nag-bibiro lang siya na gawin mo na lahat sa akin huwag lang ‘yung buhok ko.”
Gibbs admitted the bucket-throwing incident made him walk out of their set.
“Sabi niya, ‘Bubuhusan kita ng tubig.’ Kasi sanay siya sa Palibhasa Lalaki. Sabi niya, ‘Tol, bubuhusan kita ng tubig ha.’ Sabi ko hindi na kailangan ‘yun. Huwag na, huwag na.’
“So, e-exit naman talaga ako noon, exit frame. Sabay uwi na ko.”
Yllana noted how their friendship grew into brotherhood over the years.
“Ano ‘yun eh, Ober Da Bakod, first year lang ata ‘yun noong nagkaroon ng ano. Pero after noon, we we’re stronger as friends. In fact, I consider him as my brother. Kasi sa tagal ng samahan, parang kayong blood brothers eh.
“Ang importante sa akin kasi, hindi lang trabaho. Kunyari, may problema ako, ikukwento ko sa kaniya. Ako kasi, eldest, si Janno naman nag-iisang lalaki sa kanila.”
Gibbs highlighted how their brotherhood translates on the screen when working on the project.
“And I think ‘yung brotherhood na ‘yun translates on screen, kita ‘yun. It’s hard to manufacture chemistry. Di ba ‘yung iba mag-workshop pa para ano getting to know each other.
“Pero kami, kapag magka-eksena kami, it was so natural to us because totoo, totoo ‘yung friendship, kapag nakikita mo kaming tumatawa dito sa pelikula, totoo ‘yun. Makikita mo naman, iba ‘yung tawa ko kapag kasama ko si Anjo, tunay ‘yung tawa. Tunay ‘yung tawa.”
As for their comedy film, Itutumba ka ng Tatay Ko stars Janno Gibbs and Xia Vigor with Anjo Yllana, Louise Delos Reyes, Juliana Parizcova Segovia, and Ronaldo Valdez.
Itutumba ka ng Tatay Ko, under the directorial debut of Janno Gibbs, opens in cinemas January 24.
