On November 29, Kapuso singer Thea Astley addressed issues of Sapawan among Queendom artists.
At the media event for ‘Queendom Live,’ which LionhearTV covered, Astley highlighted how close they are as a group, noting some of their off-stage bonding moments.
“Lagi kaming, at least sila ate Jessica, ate Mariane, ate Hannah, sila ‘yung, kami ‘yung magkakasama sa dressing room, lagi kaming lumalabas after AOS, ganyan. But with all of us as a whole, close kami eh. May group chat pa nga kami sa Queendom, and doon kami nagchi-chikahan. We’re friends talaga.”
She then responded to claims of ‘sapawan’ or upstaging among the group, citing how they listen to each other.
“Kaya kapag sinasabi ‘yung sapawan, sobrang nakakatawa kasi sobrang layo from the truth. Minsan may mga kinakanta ako na nagagaya ko ‘yung ginawang adlib ni Ate Hannah, kasi we listen to each other, we appreciate each other’s talent.”
In September, netizens called out the Kapuso singing group for issues of upstaging one another following their performance during the Kapuso broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez’s funeral.
Astley then described what qualities make her a queen, deserving to be part of Queendom, emphasizing how the group pays attention to one another.
“I think for me, a queen is someone who knows how to listen. Kasi, what sets Queendom apart is that we’re friends. We listen to each other’s advice, hindi lang sa pagkanta, but in life in general. Kaya for me, a queen is someone who knows who she is, may sarili siyang direksyon, may sarili siyang path, pero hindi niya kinakalimutan na makinig sa payo ng mga taong nagma-matter naman talaga na nasa paligid niya. And for me those are my sisters right here.Â
“I feel like I’m a queen when I am in their company, kasi grabe ‘yung caliber ng talent, ng personality, nitong mga taong ito, nitong mga babaeng ito, kaya kapag kasama ko sila, feeling ko naa-uplift din ako.”Â
‘Queendom Live’Â features Kapuso singers Jessica Villarubin, Mariane Osabel, Thea Astley, Rita Daniela, Hannah Prescillas, and Asia’s Limitless Star Julie Anne San Jose.
Under the direction of Miggy Tanchanco, ‘Queendom Live’ happens on December 2, 8 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
