On November 23, actor Sam Milby remarked that he wanted to learn to cook Sinigang for his fiancée, Catriona Gray.
During the media event for ‘Replacing Chef Chico’ at the Makati Shangri-La, which LionhearTV covered, Milby remarked how Gray has always loved the Filipino dish Sinigang.
“Since it’s for someone [that] I love, ‘yung favorite ni–noong fiancee ko, Sinigang,–so I would like to learn. Even though I’m not a [huge–huge] fan nung Sinigang, I would [learn] it para sa kaniya.”
He also cited how the cast had a crash course for their roles as chefs in the Netflix series.
“I’m very good with scrambled egg with cheese, instant noodles, and fresh toasts pwede din, hash browns din, mga simpleng food lang actually. So what is nice [is] we had a crash course for the whole week leading up to our taping, [and it] was an experience. It was fun, it was [really] fun, but I feel like I forgot everything [that] I learned so–.”
He also recounted how his role helped him gain more respect for chefs.
“I think on the last day of our training. We had to do a simulation. Kayo Direk di ba? Sila Direk ‘yung mga customer namin, I don’t know how it went, but we did our best. It was stressful.
“Yeah, my respect for a chef has, yeah.”
As for their roles, Replacing Chef Chico stars Alessandra De Rossi, Piolo Pascual, and Sam Milby.
Under the direction of Dan Villegas and a screenplay by Antoinette Jadaone, Replacing Chef Chico streams on Netflix starting November 24.
