On November 19, Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid highlighted how his character in Black Rider connects with Cebuanos.
At the media event for the Kapuso Mall Shows in Cebu for the Lapu-Lapu City Festival, which LionhearTV covered, Madrid revealed a storyline from ‘Black Rider’ revolving around the historical figure Lapu-Lapu.
“Siguro ‘yung isa pang connection niya sa mga Cebuano is si Elias, siya na lang po ‘yung natitirang apo ni Lapu-Lapu, parang may ganon din po siyang konsepto, and kung mapapanood ninyo po ‘yung first few episodes of Black Rider, ‘yung kalaban, which is ‘yung Golden Scorpion, mayroon siyang malaking statue– wooden statue ni Magellan.
“So ‘yun may ganong connection. And to be honest kami pong mga cast, hindi po namin alam kung papaano po maitatawid or kung paano mapupunta sa story na po ‘yun.”
Aside from the series’ plotline, he cited his family’s Visayan background, hailing from Cagayan de Oro and from Zamboanga.
“Kasi ‘yung Lola ko rin po is from Cagayan De Oro, so mom ko po from Zamboanga pero magaling din po siyang mag-Bisaya. So minsan nakaka-sagot man, nakakaintindi po ako ng mga Bisaya, kaya minsan kapag nagsasalita si Matteo, kung ano-ano po ‘yung sinasabi niya sa akin, ‘oo naiintindihan ko.'”
When asked whether he wants to tape Black Rider in Cebu, Madrid replied with hopes of their production taping in the region in future episodes.
Earlier, Kapuso stars Ruru Madrid, Yassi Pressman, and Matteo Guidicelli from Black Rider; Dennis Trillo and Andrea Torres from Love Before Sunrise; and Gabby Concepcion and Beauty Gonzalez from Stolen Life attended the Lapu-Lapu City Festival in Cebu from November 18 to 19, in back-to-back events to celebrate with their fans in GMA Regional TV.
