Actress Marian Rivera has unveiled her eagerness to take on a substantial dramatic film role, a desire she has harbored for some time.
This year, she gets to realize that dream alongside her husband, Dingdong Dantes, in the forthcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 entry, ‘Rewind,’ produced in collaboration with ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.
Rivera, also affectionately known as DongYan with Dantes, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing that this marks a significant departure from her usual comedic roles in films. The actress is particularly thrilled to embark on this dream project with her husband and the esteemed collaboration with Star Cinema, Agostodos, and Triple A.
Speaking as an ambassador during the launch of Ajinomoto Philippines’ campaign promoting increased vegetable consumption, Rivera shared her excitement about ‘Rewind.’ The film is set to be one of the featured entries in this year’s MMFF, which will showcase an all-Filipino film festival for two weeks starting on Christmas Day, December 25, in Metro Manila cinemas.
‘Rewind’ represents a joint effort between ABS-CBN’s film outfit, Star Cinema, Dingdong’s AgostoDos Pictures, and Triple A, the talent agency representing Marian Rivera. Notably, this movie marks the first collaboration between Rivera and Dantes in a decade and their maiden venture with Star Cinema, despite both actors having previously worked with the esteemed film production company independently.
The majority of Rivera’s filmography has included romantic comedies or fantasy-action genres, making ‘Rewind’ a significant departure and a cherished project for the actress. Following the release of the trailer over a week ago, fans have been speculating about the film’s plot.
The teaser showcases a different dynamic between the on-screen couple compared to their real-life personas. In the trailer, Rivera’s character maintains composure as Dantes, portraying her on-screen husband, becomes increasingly unbearable, leading to tumultuous scenes and emotional turmoil.
A particularly impactful moment in the trailer involves Dantes mocking Rivera’s choice of a black outfit, likening it to funeral attire. The scene takes a poignant turn when Rivera responds that she is, indeed, heading to her own wake.
Subsequent scenes feature a car spiraling out of control and flashbacks to happier moments in the couple’s relationship. A voiceover adds emotional depth, stating, “Life is short, shorter than you think,” while the song ‘Sa Susunod Na Habang Buhay’ by Ben&Ben intensifies the already emotionally charged trailer.
Reflecting on the audience’s speculation about the film’s storyline, Rivera emphasized the importance of watching the movie to fully appreciate its impact. She assured viewers that while the story may bring tears, the overall experience will leave them with a sense of emotional catharsis.
