Amid the public revelation of their breakup two weeks ago, the highly anticipated reunion movie featuring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla is now shrouded in uncertainty.
The former power couple, recognized as one of the most successful pairs in the entertainment industry, had initial plans for a collaborative project following their individual solo ventures.
Before the much-publicized split, Bernardo and Padilla were slated to star in a film directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana.
During the Star Magic screening of the microfilm ‘Toss Coin,’ Garcia-Sampana shared her insights on the viability of the project.
“I am not closing my doors doon sa project na yun. Kasi syempre, who wouldn’t want a KathNiel movie? But maybe, pwedeng ma-delay, pwedeng mausog lang naman,” remarked Garcia-Sampana, expressing her willingness to explore possibilities.
She also emphasized her respect for the decisions of the actors and management.
“At the end of the day, it’s the call of the management and KathNiel themselves. Basta ako nandito lang ako if they need me to do the film, of course,” she added.
The director, who confirmed the KathNiel movie project in December 2022, described it as “very different” from the pair’s previous films. The news of the breakup came as a shock to Garcia-Sampana and many others.
“Wala namang hindi malulungkot. Ganun naman ang relationship, I mean I do love stories. So I know may mga ganyang moments,” she acknowledged.
Garcia-Sampana, who has collaborated closely with Bernardo and Padilla on multiple films, conveyed her heartfelt message to the former couple. “We can only hope for the best. Basta ako, mahal ko si Kathryn. Mahal ko si Daniel. In fact, that’s what I messaged them. After what I heard, I messaged Kathryn and Daniel that I love you.”
Reflecting on the uncertainties surrounding their projects, Garcia-Sampana mentioned a previous movie project titled ‘After Forever,’ which was shelved in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the network shutdown.
