On December 4, Former Vice President for ABS-CBN Films-screenwriter Enrico Santos revealed that the creative team of ‘Rewind’ waited for Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
At the media conference for ‘Rewind,’ which LionhearTV covered, Santos disclosed that Star Cinema had been dreaming of a ‘DongYan’ (Dingdong-Marian) project even before the pandemic.
He recounted separately pitching the script of ‘Rewind’ to the couple.
“Siyempre, Star Cinema was dreaming of a DongYan movie na pwede ba tayong gumawa ng kwento, so when we pitched it to Dingdong separately from Marian, parang nagustuhan, pero siyempre poker face, so kinakabahan kami. Then Marian naman, parang napagilid ko ‘yung luha, pero di rin sumagot. Kaya we’re wondering kung gusto nila.”
However, they had to halt the production of the Star Cinema project because of the pandemic.
He then confirmed that the production team decided to wait for the Kapuso couple’s availability, noting that the roles in ‘Rewind’ were ‘specifically made’ for them.
“But nag-pandemic, so willing to wait daw ba kami, so we had a long discussion, but for sure, gusto natin, only choice natin, sinulat natin ‘to para sa kanila. Pagkaba ganon ka-swak ang material, hihintayin ba natin o magpa-plano na tayo ng iba. The unanimous decision was no one else could do it but Dingdong and Marian. No one else could give life to the roles specifically made for them.”
Kapamilya director Mae Cruz-Alviar attested to the quality of their Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 movie, highlighting the genuine chemistry and love shown by Dantes and Rivera.
“It was a very inspiring story and we’re so inspired when we were making it. And of course, ang laking factor talaga na it was DongYan who portrayed John and Mary, Iba kasi ‘yung totoo ‘yung love na nararamdaman noong artista at nagtra-translate talaga doon sa material.”
‘Rewind’ stars Kapuso Primetime King and Queen Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera with Lito Pimentel, Ariel Ureta, Ina Feleo, Pepe Herrera, Via Antonio, Joross Gamboa, Pamu Pamorada, Chamyto Aguedan, Joy Apostol, Niel Coleta, Jordan Lim, Sue Ramirez, and Cony Reyes.
Under the direction of Mae Cruz-Alviar and with the screenplay of Enrico Santos, the Star Cinema-APT Entertainment-Agos Todos Pictures collaboration film opens in cinemas on December 25.
