Martin’s incredible hold on his loyal followers seems perfectly reflected by how they switch back-and-forth, from A2Z to TV5, to watch FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, on days the show does not air on the Villanueva-owned TV channel.
Coco Martin may have long established his reputation as the certified ‘Primetime King’ and ‘King of Teleserye’, and yet he keeps delivering proof of his unrivaled royalty. That FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano kept its massive following, from beginning to end and despite the tragedies that befell ABS-CBN, is an enough indication already of his continuous might in the local entertainment scene.
Then there is FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. which seems another nightmare for any show going against it on its timeslot. It has in fact outlasted four rival Kapuso shows, since debuting in February, this year. Since Barbara Forteza and David Licauco-starrer, Maging Sino Ka Man, the action drama notably maintained its leadership on its timeslot, maintaining an average 5-point advantage in people ratings, versus its closest contender. Black Rider, the series starred by Ruru Madrid, whose Lolong topped the ratings chart in 2022, is yet to score its first win.
But, perhaps, the biggest proof to Martin being followed by fans and casual viewers alike, wherever he goes, is the fact FPJ’s Batang Quiapo sustains its leadership on the ratings game, even when it is not airing on A2Z, which has been housing PBA Games, since November 5. Kapamilya programs do not air on A2Z every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, which makes getting a higher people rating harder.
That seems to be not the case with FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, whose ratings usually decline by only 1 to 2 points on days it is not airing on A2Z. Take for example the ratings for Friday, December 1 and Monday, December 4, which are14.5 and 14.8, respectively.
TV5’s ratings for this timeslot, notably improves by an average of 3-4 points, on Wednesday and Friday, proving majority of Batang Quiapo‘s viewers shift channels to watch their favorite show. On Thurdsday, November 30, the show’s rating was logged at 15.7.
It declined on Friday, December 1, by 1.2 points. A2Z, on average, contributes as much as 5 points to the show’s total ratings, which only means, up to 90% of its viewers on A2Z, switches to TV5, on Wednesdays and Fridays.
