Has the iconic trio, TVJ (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon) lost its grip on noontime audience? If one is to look at the trend of who occupies the top of the ratings chart, it can be speculated that such is really the case.
In the last three weeks alone, TAPE Inc’s Eat Bulaga, the show TVJ previously hosted for four decades, won the coveted time slot, five times, in the ratings game. Last Monday, November 20, the now Paolo Contis-led show, posted a very impressive 4.4 people rating, ahead of E.A.T.’s 3.6. Netizens and critics suspect this development may have been made possible by the new segments of the show, and the new skits and gimmicks that it has been offering.
What’s even more fascinating, is that from being virtually unopposed in the ratings game, E.A.T. seems to be very vulnerable to losing its place on the top, for good.E
Eat Bulaga emerged as the most preferred noontime show in the country, on October 30, November 10, November 14, and November 17, with people ratings of 4.4 (versus E.AT.’ 3.8), 4.1 (versus E.AT.’ 3.8), 4.3 (versus E.AT.’ 4.1), and 4.2 (versus E.AT.’ 3.8), respectively.
That being said, E.A.T. still won most of its bout versus Eat Bulaga. It remains the most-watched TV show on noontime, in terms of average ratings. But as competition becomes tighter on noontime, and with the other noontime shows, intermittently posing threats to dislodge the iconic trio from leadership, it is interesting to see whether a new noontime leader emerges in the future.
Will that be Eat Bulaga? Or, can It’s Showtime, whose leadership in the online concurrent viewership game remains solid, catch up?
