The 72nd Miss Universe concluded with a new titleholder from Nicaragua. R’Bonney Gabriel, the outgoing queen crowned the 23-year-old Sheynnis Palacios, who supports the project “Entiende tu mente” or “Understand your mind.” It seeks to emphasize the importance of mental health.
Her runners-up are Thailand‘s Anntonia Porsild and Australia‘s Moraya Wilson as first and second, respectively.
Philippines’ 28-year-old representative Michelle Marquez Dee, brought back the country in the finalist lineup, as she made it in the Top 20, then in the Top 10. Also, she received the gold award for the Voice for Choice and the Spirit of Carnival.
Apart from Dee, the rest of the 16 beauties who made it to the Top 20 were Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, India, Jamaica, Namibia, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Spain, USA, and Venezuela.
Many historical fan facts transpired in the recently concluded beauty pageant as it included two transwoman candidates from Netherlands and Portugal, a plus-size candidate from Nepal who also made it in the Top 20, and two mothers from Guatemala and Colombia.
The 72nd edition of the most prestigious beauty pageant was held at José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 18.
The 2024 Miss Universe pageant will be hosted in Mexico.
