The annual ‘Magpasikat’ competition, which marks the 14th anniversary of the Kapamilya noontime show ‘It’s Showtime,’ has kicked off with a remarkable performance from Team Vhong, featuring Vhong Navarro, Jugs Jugueta, and Teddy Corpuz.
Their performance was a heartfelt tribute to legendary comedians who have left an indelible mark on Philippine entertainment through their work on television, radio, and in film.
In a stunning display of modern technology, the trio used artificial intelligence (AI) to recreate the iconic personas of Redford White, Babalu, and Dolphy, affectionately known as the ‘Kings of Comedy.’ The “instant replay” gave the impression that these beloved comedians had come back to life for an unforgettable moment.

The homage extended to other luminaries of comedy, including Apeng Daldal, Ben Tisoy, Cachupoy, Don Pepot, Gary Lising, Ike Lozada, Mang Tomas, Palito, Panchito, Soxie Topacio, and Zorayda.
For Team Vhong, this performance was not just about entertainment but also a reminder of the responsibility that comes with using AI technology. The team stressed the importance of using AI ethically and for the right purposes, emphasizing that misuse of this technology is a concern.
To add an element of surprise and nostalgia to their act, Nova Villa made a special appearance, taking on the role of Azon from ‘Home Along Da Riles,’ a beloved classic in Filipino television.
Vhong Navarro, visibly emotional, shared his thoughts on returning to ‘Magpasikat’ and reflected on the enduring importance of making people happy.

The performance received high praise from the ‘Magpasikat’ panel of judges, led by director Olive Lamasan. Other judges included acclaimed actor Tirso Cruz III, OPM veteran Jett Pangan, actress Barbie Forteza, and international artist apl.de.ap.
The competition continues, with Team Karylle set to perform on the following day. ‘It’s Showtime,’ a flagship show in Philippine television, originally premiered on October 24, 2009, and has since become a cornerstone of entertainment for the Filipino audience.
